Default I have another question about items:

If you create a PVP character do you have access to all items in the game for free? That is, the max versions of them? I'm confused by how the items work in Guild Wars...

Yes.

However most from PvP stuff need to be unlocked via PvP or via Guild Wars Store.

so what's the point of having an economy if you can get everything you want in PvP for free?

This'd be better in the Q&A Section...

As a PvP character, you have access to an unmodded, max stats, req.9 version of any weapon, shield, or focus in the game. Armor you create has the max armor level for your class. You can also unlock mods for weapons and armor up to the max level by spending Balthazaar Faction at the Priest of Balthazaar, or by identifying weapons and monster armor with the mods on them in PvE.

This is so that newer players who have not found or bought max-stats weapons and armor in PvE can play on equal footing in PvP, and to allow you to test new PvP builds without the financial investment of buying any new weapons & armor you may need.

Added:
The economy is based almost entirely around "Prestige" items. Max stats mods are really quite cheap compared to "shinier" weapons. PvP equipment only comes in the basic 1k armor skins, and one skin for each weapon (most of which aren't that nice looking). PvE characters can buy fancier looking (although not more effective) armor and weapons to use. (PvP characters can also create weapons and armor of different skins using Tournament Reward Points).

so, to get a 15^50 mod, you'd have to find it in PvE first? Or get enough faction to buy it? So you just get the max BASE stuff, but not the mods? What about rare skins, are they freely available in PvP?

Nope. Rare skins must be unlocked via tournament reward points (I think) and oh, it's not "unlocking" per se, as it's character-based.

You do know about how you can't take stuff you make with Pvp-only character to anywhere outside PvP, right? Because that's how economy isn't affected by it (too much).

You can't sell your PvP stuff either. So it doesn't affect the economy at all.

Moving to Q&A btw.
